But I can’t resist.
So, I went to see Greg Brown over the weekend. For those who don’t know, Brown’s an old-time folksinger with a well-developed class consciousness and a dirt-hippie sensibility.
It was a good show, good songs, but the highlight came when some wag shouted out, “how was Aspen, Greg?” referring to a gig Brown played there recently.
Brown answered, “Aspen, yeah, there’s a lot of poverty in Aspen.”
The crowd cracked up, of course. And when they quieted, Brown finished his thought: “They just don’t know it.”
Which pretty much brought down the house.
